A. General Assembly for Morning Prayer/Flag Ceremony

  1. Every morning at 7:40 A.M. the school family will assemble at the playground for the Morning Offering prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, SAS School Pledge, and the singing of the National Anthem or America The Beautiful, Hawaii Pono I, and the SAS School Hymn.

  2. Bell signals are rung as follows:
    First Bell - line formation
    Second Bell - silence
    After the silence bell, the prayer leader starts the Morning Prayer.
    The flag ceremony follows, and then announcements are made as
    the need arises.
    Third bell ~ proceed to the classroom in silence

    The same bell signals are given after short recess and lunch break. Students should observe the silence bell.

B. Eucharistic Celebration

Celebration of the Eucharist is the focal point of the child's understanding of Christ as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Students are given this opportunity to participate in the Eucharistic celebration twice a month as a general rule. Grades K - 8 take turns in sponsoring the 8:00 A.M. Mass on the first Friday, the fourth Saturday evening Vigil Mass at St. Anthony's Church and on other special occasions. Parents and friends are encouraged to join these Eucharistic celebrations.

C. Library Services

The library is open for the students and teachers at the time designated for each class. Library rules and regulation are to be followed. Students are urged to take advantage of the library resources. Books are to be returned on the stamped due date. A fine of 25 cents is charged per school day for overdue books.

D. Science Laboratory

Saint Anthony School has a fully equipped Science Lab. The lab is open for the students at the time designated for each class.

E. After-School Care (Licensed by the State of Hawaii)

Saint Anthony School provides supervision of children who are enrolled in After-School Care. The staff offers services from 2:30 - 5:30 P.M. on regular school days and from 11:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M. on half days.

F. Extra-Curricular Activities

  1. Student Council
    • Purpose - to assist the faculty in promoting the philosophy and mission statement of Saint Anthony School
    • Functions - assist in maintaining order on campus, assist in line formation, observe and remind students to follow school rules & regulations, to be role models for others to follow, promote activities for the best interest of the school community
    • Members - president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, sergeant-at-arms and two representatives from Grades 1 - 8.

  2. Altar Servers

    Membership in the Altar Severs Group is open to all Catholic students in Grades 3 - 8. The primary duty of the altar server is to assist the priest during the Mass. They attend meetings and practice with the pastor before special celebrations.


  3. Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo Club

    • Purpose - to promote the cause of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo through different activities and to make her life known to others.
    • Activities - in-depth study of her life, shared prayer, and practice
      of her virtues in daily life.
    • Membership - The Mother Ignacia Club is open to Grades 3 - 8 students who are willing to help in promoting the cause for the Beatification of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo, foundress of the RVM Sisters.

  4. Junior Police Officers

    Saint Anthony School has a volunteer squad to serve as safety patrol under the direction of a police officer and school personnel. A consent form signed by the parents and the school principal is required by the Honolulu Police Department for those students who would like to join the JPO. The student must maintain a 2.0 grade point average.


    • The JPO program is open to all students regardless of race and sex.
    • The JPO shall be on duty each day at least 30 minutes before school begins and for a period of 15 minutes after the students are dismissed.
    • The JPO does not have the authority to direct traffic but shall give warning to motorists that a crosswalk is in use.
    • They shall signal to pedestrians to refrain from crossing the streets when vehicular traffic is deemed a hazard.

  5. Sports (Volleyball and Basketball)

    The objective of forming an athletic team is to develop the whole person-spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. Other objectives include a sense of fair play, sportsmanship, and good morals.

    Saint Anthony School is a member of the Catholic Schools League. As a member, Saint Anthony School is qualified to enter into competition with other Catholic Schools on Oahu.

    Requirements for athletes are as follows:

    • Student fills out physical examination form
    • Student must have parental consent
    • Student must maintain a 2.0 GPA
    • One failure in a quarter places the athlete on suspension
    • Mandated study hall for every athlete


  6. Music Group

    3. String Class
    4. Hula

    The objective of the Music Group is to help during the Eucharistic celebration by providing accompaniment to the songs chosen by the grade sponsoring the liturgy and to lead the school family in singing during the Mass. The Music Groups also perform at various school-sponsored activities to promote school recognition and talent. These students must maintain a 2.0 GPA.

  7. Cheerleaders

    The purpose of the Cheerleaders is to give moral support to the athletes
    and to provide entertainment during Catholic Schools Week and PTG meetings. Students must have parental consent and maintain a 2.0 GPA. There is a mandated study hall for all cheerleaders.


  8. Boys and Girls Scouts

    The purpose of the SAS scouting club is to participate in the nationwide Boys and Girls Scouts of America organization. The groups perform service-oriented projects and foster lover of school, family, and country.

  9. Poetry and Drama Club

    The purpose of this club is to provide a creative outlet for students in the area of poetry and drama. Students will practice public speaking skills in the area of speech and drama and will participate in area speech contests.

  10. Math Club

    The purpose of this club is to provide practice and mastery of Math skills. Students will participate in area Math contests as well as school competitions.
