Admission Requirements:

  1. Kindergarten
    1. Birth Certificate - A child entering Kindergarten shall be 4 years and 8 months old by September of that year or age 5 by January.
    2. Baptismal Certificate
    3. Health Record (updated)
    4. Entrance test
    5. Parent-Student interview with the Principal

  2. Grades 1 - 8
    1. Birth Certificate - A child entering first grade shall be 5 years
      and 8 months old by September of the year.
    2. Same requirements as for Kindergarten numbers 2 - 5 above.
    3. Release card from previous school.
    4. Report card with most recent grades, Terra Nova or other
      standardized test scores and health records.

Admission Procedures:

  1. Fill out application form from the school office.
  2. Present birth/baptismal certificates, health record and Social Security Number.
  3. Entrance test (for new applicants)
  4. Interview with the principal
  5. Fill out the Parent-Service form from the school office

Grading System:

  1. The grading system is based on averages.
  2. Report cards are issued three times a year for Kindergarten and four times a year for Grades 1 - 8. Progress reports are prepared at the middle of each quarter.
  3. The child's academic progress and personality growth will be evaluated through a Parent-Teacher conference at the end of the first quarter. Progress Report/Report cards at the first quarter will be given to the parents at the time of the conference. Parents must meet the teacher at the scheduled time for the conference.

Grade equivalents:

97 - 100 A Excellent
93 - 96 A-
90 - 92 B+
87 - 89 B Above Average
85 - 86 B-
82 - 84 C+

70 - 74 D Below Average
69 & below F Failure

  • A grade of " F " (failure) will be given to those who fail to master the minimum requirement in a particular subject.
  • A child who needs a further mastery of the basic skills offered and has received a grade of " C- " or below will be advised to go to summer school.

Retention:

Failure to master any three academic subjects by the third quarter of the school year will indicate that the student is not ready for promotion. Parents will be called for a conference to determine what steps to consider.

Conditional Promotion:

A student who receives failing grades in any two academic subjects is subject to conditional promotion. Student must attend summer school with proper documents upon return.

End-of-the-year Awards & their Criteria for Graduating Students:

General Excellence:

60% academic
25% conduct
15% leadership & extra-curricular activities

Religion: conduct, practice and knowledge of the values of Christian living
Conduct: good behavior in & out of the classroom
Arts: creativity and originality (Fine Arts & Performing Arts)
Service: availability and willingness to be of service to the school and the community
Student Council: leadership and role modeling
Safety Patrol (JPO): to be given to all JPO members
Perfect Attendance: no tardy, no absence for the year
Loyalty: Uninterrupted schooling at SAS, K- 8
Presidential Award: 3.6 GPA from 6th through 8th grade

Honor Roll & Principal's List:

Each quarter a student who gets an average of 3.2 is placed on the Honor Roll. A student who gets an average of 3.6 is included on the Principal's List.

Student of the Month Criteria:

The Student of the Month is one who is most improved in academic subjects and behavior; responsible, respectful, trusted; demonstrates other positive qualities; involved in school and community activities; has creativity and special talents. One student from each grade will be awarded monthly.

Standardized Testing:

The Terra Nova Exam is administered each fall to all students in Grades 1 - 8. Test results are given to teachers, parents and students.

Graduation Requirements:

Eighth graders will graduate after successful completion of the course prescribed by the Hawaii Department of Education and the Hawaii Catholic Schools Department.

Probation Policy:

St. Anthony School maintains a first quarter probation period for new students admitted with academic or behavior concerns. If at the end of the first quarter, the student has not performed satisfactorily, the parents will be strongly advised to get a tutor for the child, and it may not be necessarily the teacher.
